On Wed., Nov. 5th, Croatian-born director of photography Vanja Černjul, ASC, will visit Athens to meet with students and faculty of the Ohio University Film division. Černjul graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1995 and then earned his master’s degree in film from New York University. He has been the director of photography for 20 feature films, including most recently Wristcutters: A Love Story (2006), City Island (2009), Violet & Daisy (2011) and The English Teacher (2013). He has also been director of photography for numerous hit TV shows including 30 RockNurse JackieBored to Death, and Orange is the New Black. Černjul has earned Primetime Emmy nominations for his work on 30 Rock and Nurse Jackie. Černjul is also set to be director of photography for OU Film’s eminent scholar Rajko Grlic’s upcoming feature film.

 

During his presentation, Černju will discuss the relationship between the director and the director of photography, and discuss his own professional body of work regarding pre-production, crew management and keeping up with technology within the film and TV industry. He will also provide examples of his work and discuss the trajectory of his career.
