Last night's 45th Annual Athens International Film and Video Festival opened with a documentary double bill, Farmsteaders and The Last Honey Hunter. Both stories were about people who live their lives in rural spaces. Both show the physical and emotional struggle of making a living outside of the city.

Robert Kaithern, an Ohio University 2nd-Year MFA Film student, directs “Calliope”, the story of a struggling writer and his imagined muse. In the production of his film, Kaithern coordinated a wide variety of OU talent including students from the Film Division, Theater Division, and the School of Media Arts and Studies. The symbiotic collaboration between OU departments helps our film students to realize their artistic visions.
Erin: Yeah, I’ve been exploring queer studies…sexuality studies…and 1970s cinema. When I first came here, I had to reevaluate what I liked and was interested in. I’ve always been interested in 1970s cinema and the representation of sex on film. Right now, for my Research Methods class, I’m doing a whole project on John Travolta within 70s cinema.
